Dr. Brian Mealey, DDS, MS

Many patients come into dental offices today with questions about the “Mouth-Body Connection”. So what do we tell these patients? What does the evidence really tell us about the relationships between inflammatory periodontal diseases and systemic health? How does this impact my dental practice? Join us for a clinically relevant discussion about the interrelationships between oral health and systemic conditions such as immune compromise, osteoporosis, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes mellitus, pregnancy and even COVID-19.

Dr. Brian Mealey is a clinical professor in the Department of Periodontics at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, Dental School. He received his DDS in 1983 from UTHSCSA, his MS degree from UTHSCSA in 1990, and his certificate in Periodontics in 1990 from Wilford Hall Air Force Medical Center. Dr. Mealey served over 21 years on active duty in the United States Air Force and has published extensively in the scientific literature, with an emphasis on inter-relationships between oral and systemic health. He is co-editor and author of the textbooks Periodontics: Medicine, Surgery and Implants (2004, Elsevier Publishing), and Periodontal Medicine (2000, B.C. Decker Publishing). Dr. Mealey is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. He has served organized dentistry at regional and national levels for many years. Dr. Mealey is a consultant to the American Dental Association Council on Scientific Affairs and to the Commission on Dental Accreditation. He has served as a Director of the American Board of Periodontology, a Trustee of the American Academy of Periodontology and as President of the Southwest Society of Periodontists.
