AI in Dentistry

This course will define artificial intelligence and its application in healthcare. This interactive course will explore the AT technologies in Dentistry, the benefits of AI in the diagnosis, treatment planning, patient care and patient outcomes. Furthermore, we will analyze case studies, real-world examples, review challenges and limitations and discuss the exploration and adoption in dentistry practice.
Learning Objectives:
- Define artificial intelligence and its applications in healthcare.
- Describe the advantages of incorporating AI in dental practice.
- Address Ethical and Regulatory Considerations.
- Explore how AI enhances dental imaging, including X-rays, CBCT scans, and intraoral photos.
- Illustrate how AI algorithms can aid in diagnosing oral conditions and diseases.
- Emphasize the importance of staying updated with AI advancements in dentistry.
Lynn Russell, RDH, BS, EdD, is the Associate Dean of Health and Natural Sciences at Southwest Tennessee Community College and the former Chair of the Department of Dental Hygiene at UTHSC and former Program Director for the Master of Dental Hygiene program at UTHSC. She has worked in private practice, community health and academia, writing curricula for dental hygiene programs. She is an editor for Gavin Publishing’s Journal of Dental Sciences and a past president of the TDHA.
